Construct Proposal

1. Never use first and second person when writing academically.

2. Some people perceive academic writing as "formal writing" and personal writing as "informal writing." When writing formally, you must always use third person narrative. When writing informally, you are allowed to express your ideas in first or second person. I want people to think of writing as just simply writing, with no specific groups that have distinguished or strict rules. These specific laws can diminish a student's creativity and conceal their ideas.

  1. Shelby -- this sounds like a good start! You have a good potential avenue with exploring how restrictions like avoiding the first and second person constrain or limit creativity. You may also be able to trace how this construct (which makes little sense) even came about!

  2. Thanks! Also, thank you for giving me a lead way on people to research because when I did brief research on my own, it seemed like everything was just restating the rules of formal and informal writing. That said, looking up Francis Bacon and John Locke will (hopefully) help support my construct.
